Why meditate?

The practice of meditation creates an opening, a way to access that part of the mind that allows us to name our experience of thought, feeling, and physical sensation. We create space between what is happening in our minds and how we would like to respond. This leads to a greater sense of emotional control. As we continue to practice, we will have glimmers of stillness and later on more time of calm and quiet. We will not rid ourselves of intense emotions and worry, however, our interpretation will fundamentally change and we will trust that we are the experts of our lives.  We will face our fears in manageable doses. We will learn to accept whatever comes our way rather than avoid and distract.  Everyone is capable of learning this skill.
